The Elkhorn City Area Heritage Council invites everyone interested in this project or in learning more about whitewater boating in the area to come to the Elkhorn City for one of two information sharing meetings.
The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at 3pm and Thursday, April 16 at 6pm in the E.C. Library at 150 East Main St.
The Russell Fork Whitewater Initiative is an effort by the ECAHC and Elkhorn City government to attract more boaters to the Russell Fork year round, to grow local participation, and to improve in-stream whitewater features within the city limits.
The project has just completed the first of three phases, the completion of a feasibility study with recommendations to move into phase II.
We will share a presentation featuring photos and video of the Russell Fork through the Breaks and into Elkhorn City, the required equipment to tackle the gorge, commentary from well known boating professionals, and examples of other in-stream playparks in the United States. We will then discuss the playpark feasibility study and end with an open question/answer period.
