School children of all ages were important contributors to the tile murals. In the local grammar school children from the fourth and seventh grades, under the leadership of vice principal Roxanne Blankenship, worked with Steinman, teachers, and students from Otis College to learn about ecology. From there they painted tiles, grew plants to include in the garden, and took field trips to help plant.

High School art teacher Willa May, a key artistic collaborator, recruited students to design and fire tiles and to assist in mural installation.
