The Rivers Make the Mountains and the Mountains Make the People

Elkhorn residents--many of whom have participated in the Beneath Land and Water project, take pride in their small town Mountain hospitality.   In restaurants you can share humor and tall tales with retired coal miners.   The ecological-minded can volunteer for riverfront clean up. The doors to the many churches are open to all.   The town features an active civic life, including the Woman's Club, the Elkhorn City Area Heritage Council, City Council, evening activities at the public library, and cultural events at the Artists Collaborative Theatre.   In October the Russell Fork Rendezvous brings white water rafters to town for a weekend of river riding. In May visitors enjoy bluegrass and country music, food and crafts at the annual Apple Blossom Festival.
