Sculpture Benches

Local rock boulders, handpicked by the artist and donated by the Elkhorn Quarry, form the basis of 5 seating arrangements overlooking the Riverfront Park.   These concrete and granite constructions are typical of the sculpture of Yutaka Kobayashi, eco-artist and professor at University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan, who juxtaposes manmade and natural materials. Resident memories of the river are sandblasted into each of five concrete benches, including this one: "Before we had Kayaks, we used to ride the river with inner tubes; before that, we used railroad ties."
